BACK BITTERN STREET PROJECT

2007-2008

Mackinnon-Day and Carpenter collaboration

THE BARBER

This visual and dialogue passage of The Scarlet bittern continued with a second event in February 2007, The Back Bittern Barber, based upon Terry, the barber of Mount Pleasant who enthusiastically embraced the concept. Both events received positive feed back from residents, councillors and all involved.

Mackinnon-Day and Carpenter succeeded to draw together the local community, artists, musicians and singers in an exploration of urban regeneration and renewal. The Barber event offered an inclusive and high profile focus for all involved. The project has formed long lasting relationships and a legacy of sustainable community and cultural events. It is envisaged that the local community will also engage with a programme of interactive workshops and events with staff and students at the new Art and Design academy from 2008 onwards.
